Did you have a pine marten-drawn chariot?They (the ferrets) would often go up my trousers from the bottom end if I wasn't wearing wellies. And if I was they'd do their best to clamber down inside them. A dark trouser leg looks like a rabbit hole to a ferret and they will be determined to investigate. On cold winter mornings they'd climb up my arms and pile inside my padded shirt for a warm up. I'd muck them out and change their bedding with six little heads poking out of my shirt neck.
All my ferrets were very good natured and well handled but they've got some sharp claws when they're trying to climb up your shins.
My old cob polecat liked to wrap himself round my neck like a scarf and he'd have happily stayed there all day if I'd let him.
