My empire of dirt...

They (the ferrets) would often go up my trousers from the bottom end if I wasn't wearing wellies. And if I was they'd do their best to clamber down inside them. A dark trouser leg looks like a rabbit hole to a ferret and they will be determined to investigate. On cold winter mornings they'd climb up my arms and pile inside my padded shirt for a warm up. I'd muck them out and change their bedding with six little heads poking out of my shirt neck.
All my ferrets were very good natured and well handled but they've got some sharp claws when they're trying to climb up your shins.
My old cob polecat liked to wrap himself round my neck like a scarf and he'd have happily stayed there all day if I'd let him.
Did you have a pine marten-drawn chariot?

I knew a bloke with one of those.

A pine marten-drawn chariot is a non-existent, fictional concept, as there is no information in the provided search results or general knowledge to suggest that pine martens have ever been used to pull chariots. Instead, the search results describe real-world conservation efforts to reintroduce pine martens to forests in England and Scotland and highlight their roles in folklore and their natural behavior as skilled, agile predators.

We have a pine marten living locally, haven't seen his chariot though 🤔

I think Al should have his Community membership withdrawn. He's a menace.

Nearly finished!! Just got to fit out the run and maybe paint inside the roost..
Couple of spring lambs over the fence. One got in our yard yesterday, bit of fun trying to catch him! But we got him and put back over the fence. They grow so fast he won't fit through the gaps in the fence in a week or two time...

You'll never fit through that hole to get in dude
It's a bit of ventilation for the roost.. Just done a Lil decoration around it but I'm not sure i like it.. I'll see what B thinks when she gets back from Auckland on Monday..
I'm home alone again..
Gunna put a bit of shade netting on the inside of the hole so the chickens can't get out .
B suggested putting a perspex dome in the hole and painting the coup yellow..
Chickens in a yellow submarine.. it may happen yet!!!

Very thoughtful to fit an air conditioner, but won't most of the cold air pass through the chicken wire?

Perhaps you could solicit some advice?....🐣🐣🐣

Big day on the lil house today. Up at 7.00 on the tools by 7.30. Got the remaining weather boards primed one side then shot into town for a few bits then got the old bedroom window ready to rip out.
Had to wait on a mate to help me lift it out so at 10 I shot to the pub to do a Lil job for 20 mins, got 5 beers in the spout for tomorrow afternoon. Then back home and started ripping weatherboards off, mate turned up, window out then rest of cladding off.
Then it was mash out the old framing, borer treat the top and bottom plate as the are staying, then onto framing.
Got it done and wrapped by 5.30 then primed the other side of the new weather boards..
Finished right one dark at 6.30
Now I'm having a wine and prepping me steak dinner
Big fucken day.
Tomorrow I'll be putting the new window in and cladding.
Weather I get that Finished or not I don't care, I'll am going to the pub for 5 o'clock happy hour!!! Ain't been in weeks...

I put the ugly old aluminum window against the fence out side and with 30 mins some dude pulled up and asked if it was free.
It was.. I also gave him a the mismatched door that I was originally going to use, don't know what the fuck i was thinking when I bought em. I only paid 50 bucks for em and am just glad to see them gone and off the deck...got an old set of windows that may be worth 50 bucks or something but I can't be bothered advertising em an stuff so tomorrow they can go out the front..

If you wanted a perspex dome for the hole and if it matches in size, then a cheap option would be one of these split in half

So was up and at it at sparrows fart again..
Done pretty good. Got the window in,which in itself ain't a big job but all the bits and bobs add up and another trip to town was required..
Anyhu got it in and some of the cladding on before I was dragged to the pub..
Got in about an hour ago and thought I'd throw half an hour at the decoration on the chicken coop
I really have no idea why I feel the need to do stuff like this but with a glass of wine in one hand and a paint brush in tother Im Happy enough..

Picked up our lil feathered friends today!!! 3 9 week old highline chickens.. got the coop and run nearly finished this morning, just need to put in a few more branches for them to climb all over and plant a few chicken friendly herbs in the lil garden in their run.
We put em in there and watched for a bit before going to the pub to watch the rugby..
They were very wary and didn't adventure too much while we were watching.
You can see in the pics some branches that make ramps that lead to the roosting box.
While watching em none climbed the ramps to the box although one did climb the first ramp and ate the food I had put on the lil landing.
When we got back from the pub it was dark and they were huddled together on the ground so I picked em up and placed em in the roosting box, went back and hour later and they had found the roosting bar ( currently a branch a few inches off the floor) and were perched on that and sleeping..
They are friendly lil birds and seem happy enough, just a Lil shocked to be away from their flock and a bit timid.
They are to be left in the run for 2 weeks before we start letting em out so they know where home is and will return there at night should they escape the fences
Great fun so far!
Used a load of the old house piles for decoration in the run which they seem to like so far, climbing all over em and pecking away.. I've no doubt they will trash everything we have done but for now it looks lovely!

Also bought a moisture meter today. To test the timber framing before I put plasterboard up. The timber i used was quite wet so I've been running a dehumidifier for the last 4 days to speed up the drying. In nz the moisture must be 18% or less before boarding. It's all coming in at 12-13% apart from one spot, a bit of timber with a large knotty patch about a foot long, that's reading 35%!!! Muthafucka!!! I want to get the boards up. Got plenty of other stuff to get on with but getting the boards on gets em off the floor and opens up more interior work should the weather turn to shit.. which it will....
