In the round tower's in the earliest monasteries here the steps are deliberately different heights so the monks could memorise the steps to climb quicker than the attackers ..Spiral staircases, often turning clockwise, were specifically designed with military defense in mind during the Middle Ages. These famous circular staircases weren’t built randomly; their design served a crucial purpose. Located in towers and along castle walls, these stairs were meant to hinder enemy access to the upper levels of the fortress.
In military strategy, the design of these stairs made it incredibly difficult for armored soldiers to ascend in a line. The orientation of the stairs worked in favor of the defenders, as the attacker’s right hand would be obstructed by the structure, while the defender, positioned higher, could maneuver his weapon with more freedom and effectiveness.

Perfect plumb round stone towers i reckon they had figured out measuring...or they didn't use a ruler?
If I don my pedants’ hat for a moment, I think you mean a rule....or they didn't use a ruler?
I’ve got a 12” dick, but I don’t use it as a rule.As a rule I use a tape measure.
My teachers ruled with a ruler.
3 meters? AI seems to have drawn them at well over 100 metersSince 421 AD, Venice has stood on millions of tree trunks stuck into the clay bottom of the lagoon. Not steel or concrete, but mostly alder, with a few oaks, support the entire city.
In the salt water, these wooden pillars have petrified over time, becoming as hard as stone. St. Mark's Campanile alone stands on 100,000 piles, while the majestic Basilica della Salute required over a million trunks. The ancient builders beat these trees into the seabed, creating a veritable submerged forest.
This unique structure extends up to three meters deep, with piles spaced just half a meter apart. At 1.6 meters below the waterline, this extraordinary feat of medieval engineering continues, after 1,500 years, to support one of the most fascinating cities in the world.![]()

Bugs and spiders are not welcome in our house, as per the lady of the house. I am always the one dispatched to deal with the tiny terrors.I never like to kill spiders especially by accident, loving this!!
I remember when i lived in a house loft conversion, lovely pad with Velux windows. I was watching tv and this buzzing noise like a fucking chainsaw came in!! It was one of the biggest hornets i have ever seen, it landed on the floor and i had bug repellant spray mainly for fucking ladybirds( long story ). I sprayed the hornet and the fucking thing just started cleaning itself off the smug Guinness!! It took off and flew out the window tf!!Bugs and spiders are not welcome in our house, as per the lady of the house. I am always the one dispatched to deal with the tiny terrors.
They don’t bother me but since I must deal with them, then I thought I might as well do it in a way that makes it less of a chore…
