What are the thoughts on Tudor watches?? Are they on par with the better known Rolex and Omega? They never seem to have the same kudos from what I see - even if they are a decent time piece.

I wouldn't hesitate if I came upon one at the right price.

The Operations Director of an on-line Bathroom retailer I worked with a couple of years ago desperately wanted a Tudor Black Bay , but his wife (apparently someone akin to Peggy Mount) wouldn't let him buy one. It chewed him up bad.

I like this Breitling Ron. A nice classy dress watch, would look great with a shirt and the pistaccio dial with the brown leather strap looks the biz

If you wear a watch on your wrist instead of carrying it in your pocket, you can thank the First World War.

Prior to the war, wrist watches (called "wristlets" until the 1930s) typically were viewed almost exclusively as a ladies' fashion accessory. Soon, however, soldiers found pocket watches to be cumbersome and inconvenient in battle, and many made or purchased leather wrist straps to hold their pocket watches (photo 1), which had been a military practice since the late-1800s.

Savvy watch makers began making and marketing (photo 2) men's wristlets for field service, some with metal shields to protect the watch from damage and the wearer from flying glass if the watch were hit (photos 3 & 4).

The new military wristlets were made with large, easy to read numbers (photo 5) and often were illuminated.

Soldiers cherished their wristlets and showed them off as badges of service (photo 6), and when they returned home with them, they started a new fashion trend that slowly pushed the pocket watch out of common use.

It did take some time for wrist watches to become acceptable fashion, however, but following the war they were seen as the mark of a veteran.

Ahh that’s handy I can spend £3,250 on a watch then go to the bottom of the ocean with it

My watch fell off my wrist this morning - the feckin' bracelet has given way after a few years of strain, so I'm hoping it can be repaired.

A genuine used replacement on EBay is frighteningly expensive

You’ll probably find it cheaper to use the AD rather than buying parts.
Had a GMT lose a fight against a wall years ago and it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting to put right.
Thing is with current scarcity there’s coin to be made by spares on the grey market.

I wouldn't pay silly money - I can get a replica bracelet and maybe transfer the original clasp - the watch has been promised to my son when I fall off the centre stand, so it isn't like I'm devaluing it come sale time......
