It's a humiliation/ demoralisation ritual. It always is.I don't know if their arrogance stops them from seeing the absurdity of that...or whether they do it as a piss take.
It's not as though they couldn't hold it at any one of 1000's of conference or exhibition centres throughout the world.
But then, it's no different than anyone who buys a new EV because they think it's the green thing to do. If you like an EV, fine, crack on - but don't kid yourself that a new EV is better for the environment than buying a car that already exists.
