When i get my payout i am thinking of getting a monkey, i nearly bought one 3 years ago when i had money!! Honda have now updated the monkey with 5 gears so that makes me want one even more. As crazy as it seems the thought of riding down to Italy on one is becoming more than a whim and something that i am 80% in favour of doing, 5 days there and 5 back after the Misano 2025 Motogp, time will tell.@WAYNE Thank you for posting the Monkey Fever videos. I enjoyed them very much.

They were a dime a dozen when I was living in the UK early nineties. I guess they are collectable now?

The Monkey is good for 60mph standard and good for 75mph with some tweeks, there are plenty of info out there to do this without getting into big bore kits. Just a simple exhaust change( yoshimura do a nice one) you can get a plug and play flash unit and an airfilter kit that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I like the idea of fuel costs, they do126MPG but would go down with mods, there is a video on youtube i posted on the interesting thread where a guy rides to Sturges on a monkey doing 800 miles and he stopped for fuel 10 times, it worked out at $34.I can't think of something more frustrating - the point of a bike is being able to get past other traffic...not holding it up.
Do not buy a small bike for touring, IMO!@Loz i didn't know about the baby GS and on a bit of research i take it that it's the BMW G310GS, if i am correct and after some digging on it this has peaked my interest on a possible Italia visit in 2025. I wanted a Monkey but this sounds like a good alternative.
I rode the 900ie to Italy in 2015 with no problem, i'm thinking of a bit of a site seeing journey, in 2015 it was 3 days there and 3 back to do the journey with a first day ride of 500 miles, fucking crazy and painful, i want to do a 5 days there and back. Plenty of time to drink it in! The amount of sites we rode by to meet our time schedule was tight! Loved it though.Do not buy a small bike for touring, IMO!
For a laugh, once, I did a sub 200cc tour with a bunch of people. I cheated and bought a gn250 and taped over the 250 and wrote "200" on. We only went about 700km which was about 650km too much.
To make things worse, the biggest guy was on the smallest bike, one of those cheap chinese 2smoke scooters. So not only was it incredibly slow, he also never pulled over to let traffic past and it had a piss poor range so he stopped at every gas station. Which most of us had already been waiting at for 10min. Then he would get off, have a smoke, gas up, have a snack and then one more smoke before we set off…
