The only thing that will work is something that not only deals with the current corruption but also makes the idea of future corruption unthinkable.

I have yet to see discussed a better potential solution than Lamppost Doctrine.

Unfortunately, that solution requires of people rather more effort than they prefer to invest in their health, safety, freedoms and childrens' future.

So ... you live under the government you deserve, no exceptions.
I dont 100% agree with the Lamp post idea, as attractive a solution as it may be, but how about a system where politicians, as public servants must make their finances totally transparent? If they have nothing to hide then they have no worries. We also need to institute consequences equal to what the common man receives for bank robbery for abuse of power charges and cor taking bribes and other corruption- and no presidential pardons for the perputrators of the presidents crimes.

Oliver Cromwell

20 April 1653, London, England

"It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice.

Ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government.

Ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would, like Esau, sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.

Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess?

Ye have no more religion than my horse. Gold is your God. Which of you have not bartered your conscience for bribes?

Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?

Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defiled this sacred place, and turned the Lord's temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices?

Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation. You were deputed here by the people to get grievances redressed, are yourselves become the greatest grievance.

Your country therefore calls upon me to cleanse this Augean stable, by putting a final period to your iniquitous proceedings in this House; and which by God's help, and the strength he has given me, I am now come to do.

I command ye therefore, upon the peril of your lives, to depart immediately out of this place.

Go, get you out!

Make haste! Ye venal slaves be gone!

So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors.

In the name of God, go!"

Correct. While he was right to denounce the entitiled self-satisfied English Parliament, he was a pre-Marxist thick-as-shit murdering authoritarian scumbag at the same time. Having murdered an admittedly arrogant but largely peaceful king, fomented a catastrophic civil war that killed 100,000 people, staged a military coupe and installed himself as an atrocious dictatorial ruler who quickly lost the argument and all legitimacy, he crossed the Irish sea and vented his frustration by slaughtering blameless Irish Catholics who had nothing to do with his failed Pol Pot revolution, thus sowing the seed for centuries of avoidable Anglo-Irish conflict. It's no surprise he remains a hero of the Marxist, thick-as-shit British Labour party today.

I don't know if they still do but the Labour Party used to have a portrait of Cromwell on prominent display in their head office. He may have been a republican and a "man of the people" but he was no working class hero. He was a murdering religious fundamentalist who was responsible for the deaths of nearly a million people, most of them in Ireland, a country which had nothing to do with him. His genocide in Ireland was no different to Putin's in Ukraine. In fact it was worse. Ireland had a population of only 1.5 million people in 1649. In one year Cromwell killed nearly two thirds of them.

And another from Ricky Hatton - famous for his weight fluctuations between fights:

"They call me Ricky Fatton. Mind you I've had a lot on my plate recently. I got measured for this suit the other week. They measured my pants, jacket, top to bottom. Bloody hell Ricky you're a Mark F they said, a size up from a marquee."

The quote " I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it " Is often quoted as being said/created by the French Philosopher Voltaire but he didn't.

The quote was made by Evelyn Beatrice Hall who was from Shooters Hill which used to be in Kent, now in South East London. She made the quote in her book in 1906 which was a biography of Voltaire called " The Friends of Volitaire "
