The have done for quite a while. Its why the used prices of the bikes are fekked and probs one of the
reasons they wont attract many new converts to the brand. Has to be a significant contributor to their recent woes.
 
Which of course means buyers are unsure when to buy one in case it's a lot cheaper the following month.

I bought cheap last year saving over 3k, with the assumption I would have built in a little protection against depreciation.
Same bike is 2k cheaper again this silly season which probably puts the part ex value of my year old bike at around 50-60% of the 2024 rrp.
It doesnt bother me particularly as I made a killing and will be keeping the bike for several yrs, but its pretty brutal for those
who like to change regularly. At the minute, you really have to want a KTM to get involved.

KTM have done this for a good few years, production of road based bike ceased production before the Xmas new years holidays, then the factory was retooled for off road production then reversed during the summer break.
Last April I saved 4K on big Sonja and as I intend to keep her for at least another 4 years, even if KTM go under, I'm not bothered as I'll mostly look after her myself.
For what I payed compared to Ducati, Bummwaah, Triumph et al, I got an incredibly capable machine. :love:

I saved similar when I bought the SDR, plus I got a cracking part ex for The Panzer. The SFS was £9000 more expensive, my dream bike but a ridiculous price sadly.
4 years warranty was a handy thing although how that pans out if KTM goes under I have no idea.
You can look after the SDR for me as well Bob please, I’ll pick the SF cans up whilst I’m there…

Might buy myself a 990 Superduke and/or a 990 SMR. In an ideal world an RC8R as well. Analogue raucousness from the good old days. KTM is dead. The Chinese/Indian knock-offs will be piles of shit, like all other examples of their rebadging have been. There'll never make a decent KTM again so the real ones will be worth hanging on to. Though I do wonder what spares back-up is going to be like for proper Austrian models in the future.

I'm looking forward to seeing the return of a 1000 cc V-twin with no electronics. Won't hold my breath though..

If they are turning things around I wish they'd take the opportunity to go back to basics. But I suspect they've been bailed out with Chinese or Indian money so I guess we can expect to see more parallel twins and more electronic guilding of the lily. I also wonder whether the price of any bail-out will be backing away from parts support for older models to get people to buy new ones.
