My "SUV" (dunno where the sport bit comes in) has a 2.2 L engine. Not exactly massive. Presumably every car with an engine larger than that will be banned as well? That would mean just about everyone where I live banned from city centres as they all seem to drive Merc MLs or 5 series Beemers.
My car weighs 2100 kg, about the same as any four door performance or distance (ie useable) EV. So what's the difference?
The difference is that the lefty urban mindset sees 4x4s as cars driven by country people who wear corduroys, own labrabors and shoot things. They don't hate the cars, they hate the people they think drive the cars.

It's the same mindset that saw people in the former East Germany forced to drive Trabants. That ended well..

There would have to be exceptions? You can't (legally) tow 3.5 tonnes with lightweight vehicles

UK greenhouse gas emissions on a residence basis in 2023 were 479 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e) - the lowest since 1990,

For every £ million of UK economic activity, the UK emitted 160 tonnes of CO2e in 2023, 71.4% down from 560 tonnes in 1990.

Total UK greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on this basis in 2023 were 479 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent (MtCO2e). This is below the previous record low estimate in 2020. UK emissions have fallen 43.0% on this basis since 1990, with the 66.0% fall in energy industry emissions being one of the main factors.

Emissions from the agriculture industry have remained relatively flat since 1990, while other high-emitting industries have seen greater fluctuations.

Since 1990, the UK economy's emission intensity has fallen 71.4%, from 560 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent
(CO2e) per £ million of gross value added (GVA) in 1990 to 160 tonnes in 2023.

All those were within the first few pages but all show falls in emissions and not the rises government often claim

Approximately 80% of the water (typically freshwater) withdrawn by data centers evaporates, with the remaining water discharged to municipal wastewater facilities. The large volume of wastewater from data centres may overwhelm existing local facilities, which were not designed to handle such a high volume.

With evaporation being the main cooling process, 100% of water taken in doesn't mean 100% of that water comes back out. So in countries such as the U.K. where water retention has seen very little done since victorian times, you will have vast data centre useage now fighting with other industries, even farming, for fresh water sources wether they be from rivers or the data centre companies drilling down into historic aquifers and removing that water from the social and environmental existing supplies.

When steam engines had the same problem they overcame it with condensers. surely it's not beyond their wit to fit condensers to these servers?

Correct.. the useless wanker civil servants never seem the obvious coming or give a fuck.. we are the same in Ireland when the last big reservoir was commissioned in 1953 when Dublin was 35% the size it is now .. the water problem has been on the news since im a kid 40 years ago
